Patent Assistant

Harriet holds a BSc degree in Chemistry (First Class Honours), from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and is a registered New Zealand and Australian patent attorney. Her honours research project was on the synthesis and photochemistry of polydentate amino acids.

Harriet was a chemical patent examiner at the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand before joining a leading New Zealand Intellectual Property firm in 2006. She has 5 years experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications, providing advice on patentability, freedom to operate, and managing patent portfolios, and has been involved in Oppositions before the New Zealand Commissioner of Patents. She has worked with clients in a variety of chemical fields including treatment of timber, medicine, food science, production of metal alloy powders, pharmaceuticals, horticulture and agriculture. Harriet joined the Chemical Department of A.A. Thornton & Co. in 2010 and is training towards qualification as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney.
