John is a graduate of University College London, with a BSc in Physics. Following periods spent in research and as a Patent Office Examiner he joined A.A.Thornton & Co. in 1973. He qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 1976 and became a partner in 1983. Although specialising in mechanical engineering, John handles patent work across a wide range of technical fields and has extensive experience with oppositions in the European Patent Office. He is a member of the Licensing Executives Society. John retired from the partnership in 2010 and now operates on a consultancy basis for the firm.
