Karen graduated in 2004 from the University of Madras, India, with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science and Engineering, in which she was awarded a Distinction, also completing a Diploma in Web Application Design. She went on to obtain an Executive Post Graduate Diploma in International Business Management from Loyola Institute of Business Administration, also in Chennai, before joining a leading intellectual property firm in India, where she worked for two years and became a Registered Patent Agent, handling cases related to computer hardware, software, electronics and telecommunications. Karen joined the Electrical department of A.A. Thornton & Co. in 2006, and obtained the Certificate in Intellectual Property from Queen Mary, University of London in 2007. She qualified as a Registered UK Patent Attorney and passed her European Qualifying Examinations in 2011.

Karen’s workload mostly involves European prosecution, as well as managing the patent prosecution of foreign patent applications for her clients. Her clients range from large multinational companies to small businesses and individuals. Karen handles cases covering a broad range of technologies mostly relating to mobile telecommunications (3G), LED display devices, gas analysis and measurement devices, computer implemented inventions, and some mechanical subject matter.
