After graduating in Manufacturing Engineering and Economics from the University of Birmingham in 1990, Marcus began his career as an Examiner at the European Patent Office in Munich.  Since 2002, he has worked in private patent practice in Munich and in the UK.  He has obtained a Certificate in Intellectual Property Law and is a qualified European Patent Attorney and UK Chartered Patent Attorney.  He joined A.A. Thornton & Co. as a partner in 2009.

In addition to the prosecution of applications before the UK Intellectual Property Office and the European Patent Office, Marcus handles a substantial volume of European opposition and appeal work, both as opponent and defendant, including representation at oral hearings.  He has worked in a wide range of technical fields, most notably including agricultural robotics, medical devices, weaving, textile treatment machinery, hygiene products, weapons and more.  Clients mainly include international corporations.  He has experience of litigation support in France and in the UK.  His languages include English, French and German.
