Marianne graduated with an MChem from the University of Southampton in 2000, having spent six months working in a research lab at the ENSCM in France during her degree.  She received a PhD from the University of Southampton in 2004 for research on the structure and properties of layered metal oxides.  Marianne started work within the patent department of a large speciality chemicals company in 2004 before moving to work for a private practice in 2007, and then joining the Chemical Department of A.A. Thornton & Co. in 2010.  Marianne has experience of drafting patent applications, prosecuting patent applications in numerous countries, providing advice on patentability, providing advice on freedom to operate, managing patent portfolios, and Oppositions and Appeals at the EPO.  She has worked with large multinational clients, SMEs and individual inventors in a variety of fields including catalysis, pigments, alloys, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biotechnology, laboratory equipment and packaging.  Marianne qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Patent Attorney in 2010.
