Nigel graduated from Bristol University with a degree in Physics. He joined A.A.Thornton & Co. in 1973 having previously spent time serving as a Patent Office Examiner. He qualified as a Chartered Patent Attorney in 1977 and became a partner of the firm in 1983. Based in the Northampton office, Nigel deals with patent work in various technical fields, with particular emphasis on mechanical engineering. He is also a Registered Trade Mark Attorney and has an extensive trade mark practice, representing clients with a variety of commercial interests. He is a member of INTA.

Nigel now operates on a consultancy basis for the firm.
