Filing Requirements for Trade Mark
applications

In the UK and European Union

To file a trade mark application in the United Kingdom and European Union on your behalf, we will require the following information and documentation:

  • A sample of the mark (eg: word mark, logo, packaging etc)
  • A comprehensive list of the goods and/or services for which the mark is (to be) used
  • The full name and address of the applicant

Madrid Protocol

For Madrid Protocol (International) applications, all of the UK application items are required, together with a list of additional countries that are to be designated. The number of applicable countries is ever increasing, so we will provide an up-to-date list.

Worldwide

Some countries require additional information and documentation to all of that itemised above. Clarification will be required as to whether the mark is already in use in the country concerned, if so, by whom, and whether the user is the applicant or a licensee.

Other requirements

For trade mark applications that claim priority from previous filings, we will require full details of the earlier application(s).

Community Trade Mark Registrations are entitled to “claim seniority” from previously obtained registrations in European Union Countries. For seniority claims we need full details of the earlier registrations.
