Domain Names

Our attorneys are able to offer their assistance and advise; and protect you across a vast range of areas. We can advise on all aspects of domain name protection and enforcement.

Securing and protecting a domain name is an important part of an Intellectual Property portfolio, and is often vital to the commercial success of a business.

Trade marks and domain names should sit side by side in an Intellectual Property portfolio. Our trade mark team has developed expertise and knowledge in this ever-evolving specialist field, so we can provide the best possible advice on domain name protection, management and dispute resolution.

We can advise on all aspects of domain name protection and enforcement. If you have any questions, please contact a member of our trade marks team or contact us at aat@aathornton.com.

Our services include:

Domain name selection

Even if you choose to use a non UK domain extension like .ie or .us, we can assist in selecting domain names and checking whether they’re available for registration.

Registration and new GTLDs

We can help register new domain names when they become available, and can submit Clearinghouse applications for new generic top level domains recently approved by ICANN.

Domain name portfolio management

We’ll provide ongoing management of your domain names for easy maintenance. This includes the consolidation of all existing domain name registrations into a single portfolio, and linking with trade mark management to ensure everything works together seamlessly and provides you with maximum protection online.

Domain name watches

To protect your domain name from misuse, we can set up and help manage domain name watches. These are to alert you whenever a new domain name similar (or identical) to your trade mark or domain name is registered by somebody else.

Domain name dispute resolution

We’ll recommend the best possible course of action when disputes over domain name ownership arise. We have a proven track record of filing successful complaints. When a formal domain name complaint isn’t suitable, we’ll negotiate with existing domain names owners on your behalf.
