Agile Working with London Base

c£38k (tailored to experience)

About Us

AA Thornton IP LLP is a leading Intellectual Property (IP) law firm based in London. The firm has been established for over one hundred years and enjoys an enviable reputation within the IP profession both domestically and abroad.  We are delighted to continuously receive recognition for our work in independently run legal directories such as The Legal 500, Chambers & Partners and Managing IP Stars.

The role

The appointment of an experienced PA / Office Services Support into this new role marks a key point in the growth of the firm.  This is a unique opportunity for the right person to make an immediate impact by providing high level support to the partnership chair and the partners and senior managers within the business, in the efficient running of the firm.

Our ideal candidate will have worked as a secretary/administrator in a legal or professional services environment and may already be working autonomously as a PA or ready to step into their first standalone PA role (the person is more important than the exact amount of experience and so is flexible).  Importantly the right candidate will be capable of co-ordinating and prioritising a busy and varied workload and able to produce consistently accurate work and will   therefore possess an attention to detail that will enable them to spot errors and ask questions when needed.  Experience of supporting an office services and/or marketing administration function is desirable, although more important than extensive experience in these areas is an interest and willingness to learn and develop new skills.

In turn, we will provide support and training to enable the successful candidate to learn and develop new skills, and will provide excellent administrative and PA experience within a leading intellectual property law firm.  As the successful candidate will be joining an agile working environment, it is important that they are pro-active and a self-starter as well as being diligent, IT savvy, and able to work autonomously during the working day.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidates will:

    • Previous experience as a secretary/PA to a team within a professional services / legal environment, and able to work autonomously with minimal guidance
    • Proven ability to organise and prioritise a busy workload and to communicate clearly, accurately and concisely with a range of colleagues
    • A pro-active self-starter, who is willing to learn
    • A good academic background, which may be at degree level or A’ level standard combined ideally with a secretarial qualification
    • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook, and comfortable using databases, design software and social media platforms

The successful candidate will have a positive attitude, a willingness to contribute to a team environment and be enthusiastic in making the most of the learning and support on offer.  Click here for the full role description.
