About Us

AA Thornton is a leading Intellectual Property (IP) law firm based in London. The firm has been established for over one hundred years and enjoys an enviable reputation within the IP profession both domestically and abroad.  We are delighted to continuously receive recognition for our work in independently run legal directories such as The Legal 500, Chambers & Partners and Managing IP Stars.  This year we have again ranked in tier 1 for our Trade Mark practices by the Legal 500 UK, and have been recognised as one of “Europe’s leading patent law firms” by The Financial Times.

We are now seeking a super organised HR/People Advisor to provide maternity cover on a full time, fully agile basis.  The role is varied and interesting, providing an opportunity to learn and develop within a supportive and friendly environment.  Following a period of training and a handover, the role holder will take ownership of the employee lifecycle administration, including the HRMS (Cezanne), and support the Head of People in delivering the people and office services aspects of our growing business.  The role holder will also provide people related support to the Secretarial Manager in delivering a high quality secretarial service, and will be pivotal in providing administrative support for key committees and project teams.

This is an excellent development opportunity for a part or qualified HR Administrator/Advisor who is committed to a career within HR, to gain experience in all areas of HR and office services.  We welcome applications from HR Administrators/Advisors who have some operational HR administrative experience, ideally including outsourced payroll administration.  The right candidate is more important than the amount of experience, however, it is essential that candidates are able to demonstrate attention to detail as well as being highly organised, pro-active, willing to learn and to roll up their sleeves in supporting our busy managers.  In return candidates can expect excellent training, opportunities to contribute ideas, and to learn and develop their skills to support their future HR career.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful candidates will:

  • hold an HR (CIPD) qualification and be part or fully qualified (from Foundation to Advanced level), and possess at least 1 year HR administration/generalist experience (the right person is more important than the amount of experience required, although at least 1 year of HR administration experience is necessary)
  • be highly systems literate including being at ease with HR databases, excel, and letter and report production/writing
  • be credible and personable with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external key contacts
  • be able to multitask, prioritise and proactively balance a busy and varied workload to include a range of people related administrative, operational and secretarial activities with a high level of accuracy
  • possess excellent oral and written communication skills with a keen eye for detail
  • demonstrate an ability and willingness to provide excellent client service at all times

The salary and benefits package will be tailored to experience and there is a performance related bonus on offer upon completion of the maternity cover.  Click here for a full copy of the job description.
