Experienced Trade Mark Secretary (part-time) – 12 month contract

Agile Working with London Base

£competitive (tailored to experience)

Highly-rated intellectual property law firm AA Thornton IP LLP has an exciting new opportunity for a part time Trade Mark Secretary, who can work 28 hours a week for a 12 month period, to support the growing workload within the team.  There is potential for the role to become permanent.

Who are we looking for?

The role forms part of a team of trade mark secretaries and paralegals, committed to the delivery of a first-class service to the business.  To be right for this role, you will have demonstrable experience of using a variety of IT packages (to an intermediate/advanced level) and an ability to organise and prioritise a busy workload and communicate clearly, accurately and concisely with a range of colleagues.  You will be able to produce consistently accurate work and will therefore possess an attention to detail that will enable you to spot errors and ask questions when needed.

Our current team is an exceptionally strong and dedicated group of support staff with a solid work ethic and a passion for IP.  We are looking for someone to slot into the team seamlessly and to feel supported to give their best.  Our secretaries enjoy being involved in the full lifecycle of our cases in all aspects (correspondence, IP forms, invoicing, schedules and reporting).

In turn, we will provide training and support for you to develop your skills which will provide you with excellent administrative and secretarial experience within a leading intellectual property law firm.  Given the successful candidate is joining an agile working environment, it is important that the successful candidate is not only well versed on the lifecycle of a trade mark and design, but also a good communicator, diligent, and IT savvy, able to work autonomously during the work day.

Skills and qualifications:
  • Previous Legal or Trade Mark secretarial experience is required
  • Proven administrative/secretarial skill is essential, together with a passion for trade marks and designs
  • A pro-active self-starter, who is willing to learn
  • A good academic background, which may be at degree level or A’ level standard combined ideally with a secretarial qualification
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, and experience of using databases (ideally Inprotech / Inproweb)
  • CITMA paralegal qualification would be advantageous, but is not essential
  • Administrative/secretarial experience

Very importantly, the successful candidate will have a positive attitude, a willingness to contribute to a team environment and be enthusiastic in making the most of the learning and support on offer.
