On Saturday 6 June, A.A. Thornton & Co. sponsored and took part in the Toy Trust Big Thames Challenge, raising funds for UK based child mobility charities, namely: Action for Kids, Cyclists Fighting Cancer and Handicapped Children’s Action Group.
Of a vast fundraising events program designed by the Toy Trust, The Big Thames Challenge was a huge success. The event took place in Marlow and welcomed 290 participants in 26 teams to take part in a number of challenges, including a 20km Thames Path walk, 20km Thames Path run, a triathlon and a 75 mile bike ride to Oxford and back. The fundraising goal of the event was set at £175,000, which was very quickly surpassed after the evening dinner and raffle, reaching a record-breaking £205,000.
Founded by the British Toy and Hobby Association (BTHA), the Toy Trust exists to raise money predominantly from the toy industry, its suppliers and friends; and distribute the money raised to charities helping disadvantaged and disabled children within the UK and abroad. Each year the Toy Trust selects new charities to support.
