The Madrid Union welcomes its 100th member as Indonesia joins the International Trade Mark System
Home / News & Articles / The Madrid Union welcomes its 100th member as Indonesia joins the International Trade Mark System
We are pleased to report that Indonesia has become the 100th country to sign up to the International trade mark system and as of 2 January 2018 it will be possible to designate or subsequently designate Indonesia under International trade marks. In 2015, the Indonesian trade marks office received more than 47,000 trade mark applications for new trade marks over 10,000 of which were from individuals and organisations not resident in Indonesia (*).
The International trade mark system (commonly referred to as ‘the Madrid system’ because it is governed by the Madrid Protocol and the Madrid Agreement), is a cost effective way of obtaining protection in a number of countries around the world via a single centralised application at the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). If you would like advice or assistance with filing International trade marks please contact a member of our trade mark team.
